1. Raid Best in Slot List for Havoc Demon Hunter
Bear in mind that all of this is subject to change based on Warforging and Titanforging happening on gear, so this is absolutely a guideline and not a rule. Note that it is also just dealing with gear from raid environments, so this could change if you are spending a large amount of time in Mythic+ and gaining different, rarer pieces.
| Slot | Item | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Helm | Aggramar | |
| Neck | Argus the Unmaker | |
| Shoulders | Garothi Worldbreaker | |
| Cloak | Antoran High Command | |
| Chest | Argus the Unmaker | |
| Wrists | Antoran High Command | |
| Gloves | Kin'garoth | |
| Belt | Portal Keeper Hasabel | |
| Legs | Imonar the Soulhunter | |
| Boots | Eonar the Life-Binder | |
| Ring #1 | Kin'garoth | |
| Ring #2 | The Coven of Shivarra | |
| Trinket #1 | Argus the Unmaker | |
| Trinket #2 | Varimathras |
1.1. Trinkets
With the trinkets listed, this assumes that you are comparing against equal item level pieces at Item Level 945, therefore in some cases due to the scaling effect, this list can be inaccurate. Due to that, there is a simulation of all trinkets against each other listed here:
One trinket slot should be locked into a pantheon trinket, and below shows how much of a gap there is between different choices depending on what you have available. Note that the (10) choices involve 10 additional pantheon trinket wearing players in a raid, which profoundly alters the value of them, using Cradle of Anguish as a litmus test to show their general value:
Some small disclaimers are due here, bear in mind that
Unstable Arcanocrystal
is from a world boss, so relies on very high titanforging to keep up with powerful
dungeon trinkets with high Item Level, or Mythic+ trinkets. This list was also generated
with a gearset from Antorus, including the Tier 21 4-piece bonus
1.2. Convergence of Fates & Cooldown Reduction
With 7.2.5 and other trinket options entering into the mix, Convergence is generally
not worth it. Note in the trinket stack that Convergence is missing due to it being more
fluid to predict its value, and the impact of potentially de-syncing
Metamorphosis
and
Nemesis. It is currently not a recommended option, as with current gear
and with the Legendary shoulders
Delusions of Grandeur alone it is realistic
to get Metamorphosis down to 2 minutes, and if not, it is preferable to look at
relics to smooth it out rather than sacrifice a Trinket slot for something quite
weak.
1.3. Tier Bonus Combinations
Currently no 2 piece bonuses work well on their own with respective builds,
and rely on their 4 pieces to make them strong. On top of this, they clash with
powerful legendary choices in
Raddon's Cascading Eyes and
Delusions of Grandeur,
meaning that mixing sets is not currently recommended.
1.4. Evaluating Upgrades with dynamic Item Levels
Due to the Warforging/Titanforging system, having a full comprehensive list of gear ranked against each other would be far too elaborate and confusing to compile, and as such it is recommended instead to evaluate upscaled items using rough stat weights. As always with weights, they can change depending on your gear and to get them perfectly accurate for your character, it is always advised to simulate it yourself, however for the purpose of this I will use example Havoc stat weights:
These were calculated using the recommended build, Tier 20 4-piece and 915 average gear. At lower gear levels, secondaries are less significant so be aware this is not strictly universal.
- Critical Strike: 2.19
- Mastery: 1.85
- Versatility: 1.65
- Haste: 1.51
- Agility: 1
If we then compare two pairs of gloves, we can get a rough evaluation of which
to use. Starting with
Lurid Grips of the Obscene, these come with
2847 Agility, 731 Critical Strike, and 820 Mastery, so we can use this to calculate a
relative value:
Then comparing to
Grips of Hungering Shadows, these come with 2847
Agility, 642 Haste, and 908 Versatility, which can be evaluated in a similar
way:
Through this we can see that the value of
Lurid Grips of the Obscene
is higher than
Grips of Hungering Shadows, and are the better choice to
use. As said though, these weights can differ depending on the content you are doing,
your talent selections, and the other gear you are currently wearing, as many
stats synergise with others and scale exponentially, increasing their value. This
is especially true for Havoc given that stats are so close in value.
2. Racial Bonuses for Havoc Demon Hunter
Unlike most classes, Demon Hunters do not get a choice in their Race outside of Faction restrictions, and as such I do not feel Racial recommendations are necessary.
3. Legendary Items for Havoc Demon Hunter
Legendary items have a high item level of 1000, which makes them extremely strong. They are so strong, in fact, that a legendary item is always going to be worth equipping over any other item you might have in that slot.
However, there is a limitation on the number of legendary items you can have equipped at any one time (by default 1, but by now most players should be able to equip 2). Since some legendary items are better than others, if you have more items than the limit, you will have to choose which ones to equip.
Below, we will do our best to guide you through this process, as well as provide any other relevant information.
Havoc legendaries are generally very specific to the situation or fight archetype you want to enhance. There are purely single target, Cleave, and large scale AoE choices, and as such making your choice if you have multiple items to choose from is decided by that.
For single target encounters, the go to is
Anger of the Half-Giants,
providing a massive buff to your active Fury generation (note this triggers from
both
Demon's Bite and
Demon Blades). Despite many changes over
the course of the expansion, this still remains the ideal choice due to the value
of Fury generation.
For Cleave, or any fight in which you can aggressively hit more than one
target with
Throw Glaive (assuming you have
Bloodlet taken),
Mo'arg Bionic Stabilizers is extremely powerful as the bonus damage is
amplified by the subsequent
Bloodlet DoT. This also triggers on single
target, but following the 7.2.5 nerf reducing this to 25% instead of 50%, it
has fallen off drastically in strength and is relatively weak.
For AoE there are two options. The first of these is
Loramus Thalipedes' Sacrifice,
further increasing the power of
Fel Rush for each subsequent target you
charge through, though recent changes have diminished how powerful this is. 7.2
has extended this to apply with the first target hit, but are still unremarkable.
Alternatively,
Raddon's Cascading Eyes increases the frequency
in which you can use
Eye Beam, but the effect is very reliant on huge
groups of enemies to trigger its effect aggressively. With the Tier 21 bonus,
this begins to pull ahead due to the value of each Eye Beam cast and even becomes
a solid choice for single target.
Achor, the Eternal Hunger provides a significant increase to sustain,
causing
Vengeful Retreat to instantly heal you for 25% of your maximum
health when cast, and grant 20% Leech for 8 seconds when cast. This also comes
with additional secondary stats in its budget, so if you are worried about
survivability this is a great choice.
Cinidaria, the Symbiote can be reduced down to a passive damage increase
averaging out at around 3% increase over the course of a fight. It has some
circumstances where bosses do not go through the entire Health pool (such as
Odyn or Helya) where it shines even brighter. Note that the bonus damage it deals,
whilst Physical, bypasses the targets armor and directly replicates 30% of the
damage the triggering attack dealt. Its benefit however is limited to the first
10% on targets, so in some fights it can be a very minimal bonus.
Sephuz's Secret has some fringe bonuses for extra mobility and an
extra Haste proc activating after crowd control effects, such as
Chaos Nova,
alongside interrupts via
Consume Magic. If you can reliably trigger this,
due to the Fury gain from Demon Hunter interrupts, this is an extremely powerful
effect providing a pseudo
Bloodlust effect for a short period. Due to
the sheer amount of stats this grants, this can be a solid choice, and if you
can trigger the Haste effect it becomes even more potent.
Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus has some extremely powerful survivability
implications due to the 25% max health absorb shield that triggers every 30 seconds,
alongside providing additional secondaries of all 3 desirable stats. A great
choice for survivability and raid progress.
3.1. 7.1.5 Legendaries
The new 7.1.5 Legendary shoulders,
Delusions of Grandeur provide a
significant reduction to your
Metamorphosis cooldown based on Fury spent.
This can effectively reduce the cooldown of the spell by upwards of a minute,
which if it can be capitalised upon is extremely powerful in some encounters. If you
do not gain any extra uses or synchronise it with important burn phases however,
it is effectively useless. So it requires some foresight to know how much worth the
equip has and is very context specific. With enough gear, these can potentially
bring
Metamorphosis down to a 2-minute cooldown, allowing it to align
with other effects such as
Nemesis and
Chaos Blades.
Kil'jaeden's Burning Wish is a newly added trinket, providing significant
passive Agility and secondary stats, alongside a powerful on use AoE effect on a
1.15-minute cooldown. This can be very useful for timed AoE burst, but Havoc
already has access to a lot of this and given there are other powerful trinket
options, is less powerful than it first appears, but still useful.
3.2. 7.2 Legendaries
7.2 only adds one new legendary in the form of the crafted item
The Sentinel's Eternal Refuge.
These boots come with ideal stats and 3 sockets to add additional items in, but mostly
serve as a utility item for the out of combat speed increase, so is not an ideal choice
for raiding and group content.
3.3. 7.2.5 Legendaries
Chaos Theory is a cloak that grants
Blade Dance, a 10% when cast to trigger the
Chaos Blades effect for 6 seconds. Due to how powerful this cooldown is, this
is a powerful legendary that performs well specifically when combined with Tier 20
bonuses and
First Blood. It does however fall off in Tier 21 as neither
of those are used.
Soul of the Slayer grants the
First Blood talent, allowing you to take
an additional choice on the level 102 Talent tier. This allows for either
Chaos Cleave
or
Bloodlet, and this can have some applications with various builds, but is generally
not a top tier pick compared to other choices. In sustained cleave however, using this with
Bloodlet can provide strong results.
3.4. 7.3.2 Legendaries
Insignia of the Grand Army increases the effect of your Light/Shadow effects
from the Netherlight Crucible. Whilst this is an increase, it is not a particularly
significant one and most of the powers are very oriented around single target,
making it not only less desirable but less versatile, and is not recommended.
3.5. Recommended Choices
Generally, you cannot choose which legendary you get but now as the expansion moves on people have a much wider choice of items to choose from. If you find yourself wondering what to use, some good choices are as follows (in no particular order):
Single Target:
Raddon's Cascading Eyes (with Tier 21)
Anger of the Half-Giants
Sephuz's Secret
Delusions of Grandeur
Chaos Theory (with Tier 20)
Cinidaria, the Symbiote
Multiple Target:
As mentioned above,
Delusions of Grandeur relies on it generating an
extra use of
Metamorphosis. When extra uses are not generated reliably,
however it does effectively nothing unless damage is required at a specific time,
so still requires forethought as to whether it is worth equipping.
For the rest of your equipment, you should look for upgrades that match your stat priority. For that, we advise you to Ask Mr. Robot, by filling the form below.
