This section is intended for players who are new to the game or class, have no intentions of raiding Mythic difficulty, or simply want a more straightforward way to play their specialization without being overwhelmed by the numerous priorities and active abilities that need to be taken into consideration for optimal play.

1. The Basics

Subtlety can be a very involved specialization, requiring knowledge and instinct to produce good damage. It can be simplified and distilled into some key principles, however, which we will address here. In this section we will be focusing on a setup that minimizes the amount of buttons and reactivity necessary without unduly compromising overall damage output.

2. Talent Choice

These choices are optimized for ease of use. Although some talents might offer marginally higher gains when played perfectly, these same talents often result in damage losses when utilized by many players. These talents aim to present the best setup that has very little punishment for unfamiliarity or mistakes.

• Level 30: Shadow Focus
• Level 45: Anticipation
• Level 60: Cheat Death
• Level 75: Strike from the Shadows
• Level 90: Enveloping Shadows
• Level 100: Master of Shadows

3. Stat Choice

Currently, you will want to prioritize secondary stats as follows:

4. Basic Rotation

1. Cast Backstab to generate Combo Points.
2. Cast Shuriken Storm to generate Combo Points on 2+ targets.
3. Apply Nightblade to the main target and any additional high priority targets.
4. Cast Eviscerate to spend excess Combo Points with 5+.
5. Use Shadow Dance when you are high on Energy. You should use Shadowstrike (or Shuriken Storm on 3+ targets) while in Stealth to generate Combo Points. You should spend Combo Points as normal, when you reach 5+.
6. Activate Symbols of Death when you are low on Energy, in combination with Shadow Dance.
7. Use Shadow Blades when available.
8. Use Goremaw's Bite when available.
