This section is intended for players who are new to the game or class, have no intentions of raiding Mythic difficulty, or simply want a more straightforward way to play their specialization without being overwhelmed by the numerous priorities and active abilities that need to be taken into consideration for optimal play.

1. The Basics

Assassination primarily focuses on maintaining damage over time effects for potent sustained damage and cleave. In this section we will be focusing on a setup that minimizes the amount of buttons and reactivity necessary without unduly compromising overall damage output.

2. Talent Choice

These choices are optimized for ease of use. Although some talents might offer marginally higher gains when played perfectly, these same talents often result in damage losses when utilized by many players. These talents aim to present the best setup that has very little punishment for unfamiliarity or mistakes.

• Level 15: Elaborate Planning
• Level 30: Nightstalker
• Level 45: Deeper Stratagem
• Level 60: Cheat Death
• Level 75: Thuggee
• Level 90: Alacrity
• Level 100: Venom Rush

3. Stat Choice

Currently, you will want to prioritize secondary stats as follows:

2. Versatility;
3. Critical Strike;
4. Haste.

4. Basic Rotation

1. Cast Mutilate to generate Combo Points.
2. Cast Fan of Knives on 3+ targets to generate Combo Points.
3. Maintain Rupture on all available targets (up to 3). Always apply Rupture with 5+ Combo Points. Apply Rupture from Stealth (using Vanish in combat) whenever possible for the damage buff from Nightstalker.
4. Maintain Garrote on the main target.
5. Cast Envenom to spend extra Combo Points. Always cast Envenom with 4+ Combo Points.
6. Cast Kingsbane when available. Try to maintain your Envenom buff for as much of Kingsbane as possible.
7. Cast Vendetta on the main target when available. Try to maintain your Elaborate Planning buff as much as possible during Vendetta.
