General Information

This page shows you how to level up the Artifact and how to choose the right Relics for your Windwalker Monks. It is updated for World of Warcraft Legion 7.2.5.

The other pages of our Windwalker Monk guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

About Our Reviewer

This guide has been reviewed and approved by Babylonius, a prominent Windwalker Monk theorycrafter who maintains the Windwalker sections of Peak of Serenity. You can follow him on Twitter: @BabyloniusMonk.

1. Artifact Progression

For the first 35 Artifact points, we recommend the following progression path, as a Windwalker Monk.

Essentially, you should take all your traits in a counter-clockwise fashion, skipping Gale Burst until after you get Crosswinds.

1. Strike of the Windlord
2. Dark Skies
3. Rising Winds
4. Death Art
5. Light on Your Feet
6. Fists of the Wind
7. Spiritual Focus
8. Inner Peace
9. Tornado Kicks
10. Transfer the Power
11. Tiger Claws
12. Crosswinds
13. Gale Burst
14. Power of a Thousand Cranes
15. Strength of Xuen
16. Healing Winds and Good Karma (in any order)
17. Windborne Blows

After this, the remaining points should be distributed as follows.

1. Ferocity of the Broken Temple
2. Split Personality
3. Master of Combinations
4. Thunderfist
5. Fists of the Wind
6. Rising Winds
7. Inner Peace, Tiger Claws, Strength of Xuen, and Power of a Thousand Cranes, in any order
8. Death Art, Light on Your Feet, and Healing Winds, in any order
9. Concordance of the Legionfall

2. Relic Choice

For Windwalker, both the item level and trait of the relic can have a huge impact on your choice. Each trait is worth a certain number of item levels in terms of raw DPS; below is a list of each trait and how much they are worth in terms of your weapon's item level. When comparing relics, you should compare the combined item level increase provided by the actual relic and the value in the list below, and then choose the relic with the higher combined value.

2.1. Single Target

1. Rising Winds, with the 2-piece Tier 19 set bonus (+7 item levels)
2. Fists of the Wind (+6 item levels)
3. Rising Winds, without the 2-piece Tier 19 set bonus (+6 item level)
4. Inner Peace (+3 item levels)
5. Tiger Claws (+2 item levels)
6. Strength of Xuen (+1 item level)
7. Everything else (+0 item levels)

2.2. AoE

1. Fists of the Wind (+10 item levels)
2. Inner Peace (+8 item levels)
3. Rising Winds (+5 item level)
4. Power of a Thousand Cranes (+4 item levels)
5. Tiger Claws (+3 item levels)
6. Strength of Xuen (+1 item level)
7. Everything else (+0 item levels)
