1. Best in Slot
For choosing your gear, we recommend checking out this spreadsheet (credit goes to Garg).
A special mention is warranted for the
Drape of Shame cloak, which
is essentially the best cloak you can use, without exception. If you have the
option of equipping one, you should even in the face of a large (~40) item
level disadvantage. Use this spreadsheet to
determine the value of your Drape of Shame.
2. Tier 20 Set Bonuses
The Tier 20 Set Bonuses are both reasonably good, but you should look at their effects as passive, since trying to adjust your playstyle to maximise their effects is awkward and will cost you.
The Tier 19 2-piece set bonus provides a strong passive HPS increase. In
order to be able to sustain the increased number of
Uplifting Trance procs, you practically have to use the
Lifecycles talent.
The 4-piece set bonus is also desirable, as it also provides a strong passive HPS increase. The implication of using this bonus is that you do not want to re-cast Essence Font until the HoT fades.
We will update this section to provide more detailed advice on which (if any) combination of Tier 19 and 20 Set Bonuses you should use.
3. Legendary Items
Legendary items have a high item level of 970, which makes them extremely strong. They are so strong, in fact, that a legendary item is always going to be worth equipping over any other item you might have in that slot.
However, there is a limitation on the number of legendary items you can have equipped at any one time (by default 1, but by now most players should be able to equip 2). Since some legendary items are better than others, if you have more items than the limit, you will have to choose which ones to equip.
Below, we will do our best to guide you through this process, as well as provide any other relevant information.
The ranking of legendary items depends on the content you are doing, either raiding or mythic+ dungeons.
3.1. Raiding
Velen's Future Sight: from a pure HPS perspective, this legendary is
as strong as
Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus. The strength of this legendary
comes from its low cooldown, which makes it ideal for dealing with burst damage
in Mythic encounters. You should be using this legendary as often as possible,
ideally lining it up with predictable burst damage.
Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus: is by far the best legendary item for a
Mistweaver Monk. Not only is the HPS it provides very strong, but because
Mistweavers lack defensive cooldowns, the shield it provides every 30
seconds increases your survivability greatly.
Ei'thas, Lunar Glides of Eramas: this legendary is essentially second or
third-best, providing a solid HPS increase.
Shelter of Rin: with this legendary item, you can save charges of
Sheilun's Gift and use
Thunder Focus Tea-empowered
Renewing Mist to do considerable burst healing. Aside from this, the
item just provides a passive HPS increase. Unless there is a very large amount
of burst damage against single targets, it is preferable to use Sheilun's
Gift with fewer stacks (4-6) rather than waiting until you have 12.
Petrichor Lagniappe: this potentially allows you to fit another
Revival into an encounter. If you are able to cast another Revival
(which is actually effective), then this item is extremely powerful. Otherwise,
it is just an item level 910 item.
Leggings of The Black Flame: this is the strongest legendary for
Fistweaving, as it provides the largest HPS/Mana increase, on top of making
Essence Font far more usable in a raid setting. It also provides
amazing spot healing via
Thunder Focus Tea with
Effuse/
Enveloping Mist. Mistweavers, however, do not rate
this item too highly.
Doorway to Nowhere: this is simply a passive throughput increase
that requires no extra thought. This legendary can potentially be better than
Leggings of The Black Flame, however it requires perfectly casting
Essence Font on cooldown to achieve this. The random nature of the item
is also pretty bad for healers in general. The stats of this cloak are also
extremely bad, and it competes with a tier slot or
Drape of Shame.
Sephuz's Secret: this can be a solid option for fights
in which you are constantly dispelling and therefore where you can get it to
proc often.
Ovyd's Winter Wrap: is not appealing for raiding, and it should be
avoided.
Unison Spaulders: this is strong with heavy
Enveloping Mist
builds, as it makes your filler spell stronger, allowing you to save more Mana.
The additional
Soothing Mist beam is also a smart healing around the
target, which means it will have little overhealing. It also scales off the
Enveloping Mist amplification, which means it works rather well with
Mist Wrap, and haste stacking. That said, compared to the other
legendaries mentioned above it, it is the weaker choice.
Eye of Collidus the Warp-Watcher: this is a very weak legendary item
that should not be considered.
Soul of the Grandmaster: this is extremely weak and should not be
considered.
3.2. Mythic+
For Mythic+, the considerations for choosing your legendary change somewhat.
Velen's Future Sight: this legendary is even stronger in Mythic+
dungeons, and if you have it, you should make a point of using it without
exception.
Ei'thas, Lunar Glides of Eramas: this legendary is very strong for
Mythic+ dungeons from a Mana efficiency stand point. Also, because the effect
is so strong, you do not need to talent
Rising Thunder in 5-man
content to utilise it, but it is still strongly encouraged.
Sephuz's Secret: this legendary gains power due to you being better
able to use the effect in Mythic+. It can be timed in relation to large bursts
of damage on your group with the use of
Paralysis or
Leg Sweep.
Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus: this is very helpful for dealing with
random 1-shot mechanics present in Mythic+.
Ovyd's Winter Wrap: this loses a lot of its randomness problems in
smaller groups, so it is a far stronger legendary here.
Vivify is much
more heavily utilised in Mythic+, making this legendary even stronger. The
legendary itself also has the two best stats for healing in Mythic+.
Shelter of Rin: this offers around the same healing as
Leggings of The Black Flame, but is great for dealing with predictable
group damage, such as from
Lantern of Darkness.
Leggings of The Black Flame: this helps with Mana sustain (worse than
Ei'thas, Lunar Glides of Eramas), and potentially gives you more
Thunder Focus Tea-empowered
Enveloping Mist/
Effuse,
which is very relevant for the burst damage in Mythic+.
Unison Spaulders: this is strong for Mana sustain for Tyrannical
bosses. Aside from this, however, it does not see much usage, as you will be
consistently breaking
Soothing Mist to deal with high group damage on
trash.
Petrichor Lagniappe: this allows you to use
Revival far
more frequently, which can be a lifesaver in Mythic+.
Eye of Collidus the Warp-Watcher: this is weak for the same reason why
Unison Spaulders is weak; you simply do not have the time to channel
Soothing Mist that much in Mythic+.
Soul of the Grandmaster: this is extremely weak and should not be
considered.
4. Loot Competition
Regarding the loot you will get from raid or dungeon bosses, you will compete with other classes in the following cases:
| Item Type | Competing Classes |
|---|---|
| Tier Tokens | Hunters, Brewmaster/Windwalker Monks, Shamans, and Warriors |
| Leather Armor | Demon Hunters, Druids, Brewmaster/Windwalker Monks, and Rogues |
|
Everyone |
| Trinkets | Restoration Druids, Holy Paladins, Discipline/Holy Priests, and Restoration Shamans |
